Avid Systems is leveraging the incredible capability of the multi-core Graphics processors for signal processing applications. The Graphics Processor has reached a price/performance ratio that provides signal processing capability in a small footprint for a fraction of the cost of previous systems. Avid Systems is using the CUDA development environment and Nvidia processors to provide our customers with a new dimension of signal processing.
The multi-core Graphics Processors (GPU) provide an inexpensive platform that provides more than 3 Teraflops for only a few hundred dollars. This capability can be used to process signals that traditionally has been done on FPGAs or specialized hardware platforms. Applications for GPUs range from performing high speed FFTs for signal detection and channelization to filtering and demodulators.
